Abstract
The rapid expansion
of financial technology (fintech) has transformed the global financial services
landscape, promoting financial inclusion and expanding access to digital
financial products, particularly in emerging economies. Despite these benefits,
concerns regarding cybersecurity, data privacy, consumer protection, and
regulatory oversight continue to influence consumer confidence in fintech
services. Trust has therefore emerged as a critical factor shaping adoption
intentions and long-term usage behavior. This study examines consumer trust in
fintech services relative to traditional banking institutions and investigates
the moderating role of regulatory awareness in this relationship. Drawing upon
the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use
of Technology (UTAUT), and trust-based adoption frameworks, the research
evaluates five dimensions of consumer trust and their influence on adoption
intention. The study aims to develop a comparative trust profile of fintech and
traditional banking services, identify the most significant trust determinants,
and assess whether regulatory awareness strengthens consumer confidence. By
integrating technological, behavioral, and regulatory perspectives, the study
addresses an important gap in the fintech literature. The findings are expected
to provide valuable insights for policymakers, regulators, and financial
service providers seeking to enhance trust, improve consumer protection, and
encourage sustainable fintech adoption.
